James Nixon

As a lighting designer I have a passion for creating efficient, maintainable, and visually compelling productions. I’m currently pursuing a BFA in Design and Technical Production with a focus in Lighting and Sound Design at Western Michigan University, where I continue to expand my skills and experience in both educational and professional settings.
Where as an electrician, I believe in supporting the artistic vision of a design team while bridging the gap between creative ideas and technical execution. With a background that blends design insight and hands-on electrical work, I thrive in fast-paced environments and bring precision, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills to every production.
This season, I’ll serve as the Production Electrician for Cats and Sweeney Todd at WMU.
Along with being the Lighting Designer for The Cottage at WMU.

I spent the past summer working as the Staff Electrician and Light Board Operator at Weston Theatre Company in Vermont.

My past work includes roles on productions such as Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, Clue, The SpongeBob Musical, and Dreamgirls.
In addition to my production work, I’ve built technical experience through positions like Theatrical Systems Assistant at WMU and being a Stagehand at Miller Auditorium, along with crew supporting roles at Illitch Entertainment and the Masonic Temple.
I’m always seeking new opportunities to grow, collaborate, and create work that connects audiences through light, sound, and storytelling.
